What it takes to be successful in the SAFL
PRACTICE
PRACTICE PRACTICE
As we go into week 4,
we are beginning to realize that some teams are clicking on all cylinders while
others are struggling. How can a team improve drastically? - PRACTICE!! Team
captains must find a way to meet at least once a week and improve your team by
practicing. More practice leads to improved performance! Yes we all have jobs,
school, families etc…BUT if teams want to win in this league, teams must find a
way to get together and practice! Remember fellas, football is a strategic game
and on “any given Saturday”, any team can win! More practices and get togethers
leads to increased chemistry and a better understanding of the talent on the
team.
There is also a league
epidemic with the amount of dropped passes we are witnessing! Guess
what..receivers you would not be
dropping passes if you practiced more! It doesn’t get any easier once the
weather get cold. And trust us it gets COLD. Do you get our drift…??
Know
the Rules
Knowing the rules is
half the battle. If your opponent knows the rules better than you then most
likely they will be the victor. Manipulate the rules in your favor and you will
results. Captains, keep in contact with the refs during the game especially if
you see something that is illegal let them know so they can make the correct
call. Know the Rules.
QB’s
and Defense
The formula for
success in the SAFL is a strong QB and strong defense. Let’s take a look at
some of the teams that have used this formula:
The Bandits –
Excellent QB (Jawid). Has an electrifying arm and can chew up yards with his
feet. Bandits defense – does not allow many points; excellent safeties (Sakib
and Abir)
Stop n Go –
Strong QBs: Hector and Talha- both very talented and accurate QBs. Stop n
Go defense- arguably the best all around defense. They possess excellent zone
and man defense. Can shut down any offense. Excellent safety (Suleman).
Decepticons – Accurate
and mobile QB. Very balanced overall with an improving defense. Strong defense
by Alex Leonce.
Bandits, Stop n Go and
Decepticons are the only undefeated teams remaining. These three teams have
strong defenses, great QB play and excellent chemistry. If we look at the NFL
this year, high octane teams like the Saints, Patriots and Packers are a
combined 4-8…this is staggering considering these teams were all in the
playoffs last year. They all obtain strong QB play, but lack a strong defense.
We all heard the term- DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS! In the NFL and SAFL, that is
truly the case. Last years SAFL Super Bowl had two defensive teams – Slumdogs
vs Stop n Go – two very strong defenses followed by good QBs.
The facts are clearly
there and we hope teams take this advice and put it to use! Tune in next week
for more tips from The Coach!
