The Hot Seat- PJ Suri

"...I don’t go on the field with a mindset that someone is better than me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a challenge for everyone.- PJ Suri"

SAFL: PJ Suri Thank You for joining us. You are officially on the Hot Seat…

Let's start with this…

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
PJ:
Age: 28
Profession: Con Edison - engineer (it had to be that or doctor right?)
Hobbies: Love to do little projects around the house. I tried to pick up carpentry but with limited time it’s hard. I love watching cartoons like Simpsons and Family guy.

SAFL: Did you look up to any athletes when growing up? If so, who?

PJ: Yes. I got into sports in the 90’s so basically any team that was good in the 90’s were, and are, my favorite teams (Bulls, Braves, Cowboys). I'm a huge fan of Aikman, Maddux, Chipper Jones and obviously MJ. One of my all time favorite players was Rodman, what a great rebounder and defender!

SAFL: How did the mega merger between the Savages and Spartans of last year improve the current Savages?

PJ: Well have you ever heard the saying if you can't beat them, Join them? Basically Spartans begged us to join our team.

No I'm joking. Anwar, Irfan, Z and I grew up together. So since Spartans were looking to overhaul and we wanted to add a few players to our core squad, we decided it was best to just merge.

SAFL:
How do you feel about your chances against the SAFL competition this year?

PJ: I feel like we have a great team this year. Our D was great last year and with the addition of Hash, the DPOY of last year, we are even stronger on that side of the ball. And with my fat ass not on D anymore, we are faster too. Our O should be strong as well. We definitely  need to be consistent. That starts with me. Overall I think we will be right up there with the top teams. A lot of teams will be scared of us.

SAFL:
You have yourself, Zulf and the last years MVP as QBs on your team. How did you get selected as the starting QB for your team? Was there any QB controversy?

PJ: Anwar is moving out of NY so I was second in line. But I've been telling people Anwar was pretty mad I got selected over him, being that he was MVP last year. And that he is so mad that he is moving out of NY.

SAFL: 3 weeks in.. How do you feel about your teams chances? To win it all?

PJ: We don’t have the best record, but I think we're still one of the teams to be feared with. We have a lot of talent and leadership on this team. I think we'll be fine.

SAFL: The game against the Bandits.. You guys were up big? How did such a large cushion slip away?

PJ: We had a couple of dumb plays on O that caused our D to be in tough positions. One of those plays was the throw by me on a punt. I was trying to throw it out, but obviously it didn't and the team was put in the bad position. Bandits took advantage and scored on the punt return. That shifted the momentum a lot!

SAFL: You were tabbed as the starting QB...meanwhile; Anwar is taking all/most snaps it seems. Are you the starting QB? Or are you the starting QB only when Anwar’s not around for the Savages?

PJ: Anwar was supposed to be the starting QB, however when he decided on moving out, I was the next in line. Being that he won’t be around, he wanted to QB before he left. How can you say no to that? I'm sure there isn't a SAFL in NC...not yet at least.

SAFL: When you are the QB, who’s your favorite target with such a great receiving core?

PJ: I really don’t have a go to receiver. I think to throw to whoever I see open first.

True/False

SAFL: Savages have the best receiving core in the league?

PJ: TRUE

SAFL: Savages have the best safeties in the league?
PJ: TRUE

SAFL: Savages have the best QB (whether u or Anwar) in the league?
PJ: False (for now).

SAFL: Open draft; give me your top 3 picks.

PJ: Yash, Hash, Z. I don’t care how the rest of the league plays, but I know when those 3 are on the top of their game, I don’t need anyone else.

SAFL: Where do you get drafted in an open draft?

PJ: Depends when this open draft is/was. 6-7 years ago...Probably 1st overall. Now...Maybe top 20. I'm an old and crippled man...

SAFL: Based on what u seen, give me your top 3 QBs in the league.

PJ: It’s a toss up. I can’t really say no one is running away in that position.

SAFL: Your top three WR?

PJ: Pick any 3 from the savages.

SAFL: If u can pick just one player in the league, to play with, who is it?

PJ: Alex from Decepticons. He is quick and very athletic.

SAFL: One player you want to play against who is it?

PJ: No one in particular, if you're not on my team, I hate you all equally

SAFL: One player you are most challenged by?

PJ: No one. I don’t go on the field with a mindset that someone is better than me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a challenge for everyone.

SAFL: What are some key observations about the league 3 weeks into it?

PJ: There is a lot more competition this year compared to last. And because a lot of teams/players have returned, I'm starting to see rivalries develop.

SAFL: How would you improve the league?

PJ: I think the Blitz needs to be 2 miss, rather than 3. Right now, to me, it doesn’t seem to be very effective. Kick offs should be added!!

Give me your finals prediction. Savages will be there...I’ll leave it at that.

PJ Thank You again for joining us. You are officially off the Hot Seat!
