Hot Seat With Harvey of Bandits

1. What does Harvey "The speed demon" do when he's not playing football? Hobbies, daily activities? Work?

Well I'm still in school, I work for the Boys & Girls Club of America.. making Nassau County a positive place for kids ;-)…besides that, I like to spend time working out and working women out.

2. Besides football, what other sports do you play? Positions? Are you any good?

Softball- Centerfield where I like to think I hold it down like a paperweight…hitting could definitely use work tho.

Basketball- I play Forward..I think basketball is my best sport by far, or so I’m told.

3. You also play in SASL and SABL/ What continuously draws you to South Asian Sports?

The South Asian Sports Leagues are different than other leagues because it really is a community. Players aren’t just competition here, they become friends. When you have the opportunity to get to know everyone in the league it makes more fun, more competitive, and creates a sense of respect among the players. You don’t really get that effect in other leagues..

4. Did you play any of those sports for your high school teams or just private leagues?

Never did any sports in high school besides winter and spring track for four years each..I guess that is really where I developed the speed…

5. Who's your favorite pro athlete and why?

Derek Jeter...he exemplifies leadership, commitment, consistency, and just plain winning!…and he’s got a fist full of rings to back it up. The man is legendary..

6.You have been part of South Asian Sports for a number of years. Which moment stands out most to you?

S.A.S.L. 2009…Saturday Night Lights…Lions Vs. Dynasty for the Wild Card spot. This was by far the most intense, nerve-racking, back and forth game I have ever been in. I just remember catching a line drive to win it in the end, and how significant it was for the Lions to make the play-offs at the time. We went on to lose to S.W.A.T. of course next round…but I’ll never forget that game or that season..

7. What do you expect from yourself this year as an individual? Is there a certain number of touchdowns or receptions your gunning for?

Well this is my first time playing any kind of organized football, so I really don’t know what to expect…I’m still trying to get the terminology down lol..I just learned what a pick 6 meant last week. But like with every league for South Asian Sports, competing in the All-Star Game I think is a huge accomplishment for any individual.

8. After watching you play, your athleticism is quite obvious. The critics have been calling you one of the best potential receivers in the league, do you think you been held back in the race because of your quarterback?

I appreciate the compliment..Not at all..its still early in the season, so I knew Burhan and I had some kinks to work out. Bur is one of my best friends…I know he has the ability to take us to the next level, and I have faith that he knows how to get us there. We just both try to improve a little every week..but most importantly, we trust each other.

9. You are one of the captains of the team. What do you think is the biggest challenge you have faced thus far?

The best way to get better at any activity is repetition…For a team to really get better they need to practice regularly and together. But as any captain in the league will probably tell you...getting a full team of grown men to come down to a football practice during the week is damn near impossible…Now that’s a challenge.

10. What do you attribute the close losses the Bandits have suffered this season?

Well so far, our team has played great football in the first half of games, second half…not so much. We need to remember to stick to the game plan. Patience, awareness, and clock management is how you close out games.

11. Do you still think Bandits have a shot to get to the postseason and scare some teams?

Hell yeahh!! I truly believe that things are about to change for the Bandits...we have way too many playmakers to not produce. I think our team week 1 and now are completely different teams...I smell some wins coming our way soon, and I know our QB Burhan is ready to lead us there.

12. What is the biggest weakness of the Bandits and what are their biggest strengths?

WEAKNESS- some teammates are used to playing with some, but not others..so we all need to work harder learn each others strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies fast…also we need to keep our heads up trust that we have the team we know we are.

STRENGTHS- many of our players have a deep knowledge of the game.(Burhan, Farzan, Vic, Sakib, etc)

The core of the team is composed of close family and longtime friendships…This to me goes a long way

We gots madd speed.

13. Do you see Bandits as a franchise that will develop and compete year in and year out?

Most definitely. I think our ability to learn and develop quickly as a team is one of our strongest characteristics. Despite the 0-3 start, this team has a lot of talent…I'm pretty confident that The Bandits will be a respected franchise by season’s end.

14. If not your team which team are you rooting for most in the SAFL?

Despite the scuffle the other week, I got respect for the Wolfpack. They have a strong athletic team that has the ability to do damage. I’ve played on teams with Parvesh and Chris, so I know they will work hard to win..plus my man Ricky is a good dude.

15. Even though its still a little early to call but which team do you think is your biggest threat/rival?

Right now I would say Spartans and Empire are the biggest threats to us all…two juggernaut rosters...with undefeated records…someone has to step up and dish out some losses to these teams..

16. If this was a draft which 3 SAFL players
would go in the top 3 picks?

1) Anwar Sadat –SPARTANS: putting up insane stats right now…and we all know numbers don’t lie.

2) Marc Flynn-BANDITS: have yet to see anyone who can really stop Marc from doing Marc Flynn type things..don’t think there are many in this league than can..

3) Sakib Hassan-BANDITS: man is a beassst…plays offense and defense superbly, and runs amazingly well. Sakib can also single handedly run a disciplined defense for you…an excellent quality to have.

17. Aside from a player on your team, which athlete impresses you the most in this league?

Dipan from Empire- heard a lot about the guy, and within seeing him play for 3 plays I saw that he’s as good as they say..and Anwar from Spartans- obv killing every and anyone.

18. What makes this league better than other leagues you have participated in?

Organization mannnn...the league has always done an amazing job at every sport they put together. Things like: Player of the Week, Power Rankings, The Buzz, Game of the Week, Predictions, The Hot Seat, All Star Games, etc..all help to get you more involved with the league itself, and pushes you to want to become a better player. Most other leagues don’t have you anticipating your next game like this one does lol…Plus, what other league have websites where you can scout players, recruit players, watch game footage, check stats, read up on the latest news, and talk trash all in the same place?

19. What can the league improve on?

Well we could probably work more on game footage/highlights…and it would be nice to have official stat takers…but besides that…South Asian cheerleaders at every game would be sick.

20. Finally starting off 0-3, What do you expect from your team for the rest of this year? Also tell us a little about the athletes on your team.

I expect us to grind out the remainder of the games like it our last.

I expect several of our players to do big things in big ways

And I expect the Bandits to go on a winning run very soon.

Burhan…the mastermind...knows the game and how to use his game pieces

Victor and Sakib…all around dangerous athletes..can plays all positions with intensity

Farzan,Baktash,Ayaz…the scrappiest players in the league

Moe,Marc..will kill you on both offense and defense

Zeeshan,Yash,Rizwan..all aggressive as hell..these guys make our team deep and complete

21. Any parting words? Message to the rest of the teams and captains.

1 )Yeah, just thank you for the opportunity to be in the Hot Seat, and shout out to the organizers and commissioners for all the hard work. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season..AND REMEMBER TO ENJOY YOURSELVES.

2) Whether it’s Football, Softball, or Basketball…#54 gon getcha one way or the other.

3)Sleep on the Bandits, and you gon wake up underwater….

PEACE YA’LL!
