Savages-
The Savages, captained and co-captained by Irfan Musliwala and his brother, Zulfikar Musliwala look to take their experience from the Kissena Park One Hand Touch football leagues into the newly formed SAFL and wreak absolute havoc on the opposition. Lets take an in-depth look at how this team is stacked up.
Zulfikar Musliwala – QB – The Brown Michael Vick? Having played Quarterback at Bayside High School and Quarterback/Cornerback at Kean University, Zulfikar possesses a cannon of an arm and speed you’d see in a wide-out. Potential to be one of the best 2 way players in the league as his defensive abilities will be, without question, one of the best in the leagues. Only downside here is he tends to think too much in the pocket, thinks he can make any throw in any situation, which can lead to costly mistakes at crucial times.
Pankaj Suri – The Brown Wes Welker? Pankaj is a seasoned veteran who has been around the game a LONG time. Childhood friend of Zulfikar’s, Pankaj, or as we affectionately like to call him, Pancake, is a student of the game. Having torn his ACL a few years back, no one would’ve thought he’d be able to continue to play the game at such a high level, yet he continues to do so. Does not possess a great deal of speed but is very, very smart on the field on both sides of the ball. Look for him to be the voice on defense as offenses will have to deal with trying to get by Pancake.
Yash Shah – Born cricketeer, now a solid football player. On offense, look for him to be the homerun threat constantly, as he recently ran the Marathon in San Francisco and does not seem to run out of gas, ever. Solid hands, yet needs to work on his overall route running skills. Another one of Savages 2 way players, look for him to anchor down the opposition’s number one threat. DeSean Jackson on offense, Nnamdi on defense. His motor and heart never stop. A great asset for any team.
Manju Shanmugam – Where is he? Can’t see him? That’s right. No one will. Savages pint-sized attack in the form of Manju will look to use him as a short to mid yardage receiver as he possesses very solid hands and admirable speed. Can always count him for a good joke (he is Aziz Ansari’s cousin) to keep the team loosened up.
Bhavik Sheth – Brought in to the Savages by Yash Shah, nobody knew what the kid could bring to the table. Turns out he brought a lot more than anyone of us expected. Possesses great break-away speed and very solid hands and looks to be another deep threat in the offense along with Yash. Although football isn’t necessarily his primary sport, he possesses great instincts and has the potential to be an important piece of this team.
Parik Suri – Older brother of Pankake’s, and good friend of the Musliwalas. Does not possess a good deal of speed and his hands are at best, shakey, but look for him to improve as the season progresses, as he’s been away from the game for quite some time.
Joel Enai – Beast in basketball, but can he convert his talents onto the football field? Has shakey hands but is lanky and one of the taller receivers on the Savages. Look for him to be the silent threat on this team.
Aasheesh Shravah – Another fleet of foot Savage. Tremendous speed. Shaky hands. A die-hard 49er fan who loves the game of football. A lot of untapped potential here. Could turn out to be yet another weapon for Zulfikar’s stable core of receivers.
Irfan Musliwala - Has great speed on both sides of the ball but inconsistency has plagued him as a WR. In preseason action though, it seems as if he has found the cure, reeling in multiple highlight reel passes. On the defensive side of the ball, has great ball-hawk skills to go along with a killer instinct and has the potential to lockdown his side of the field.
