Match up 1- Outlaws vs Slumdogs

The first ever game of SAFL provided some memorable plays. Unfortunately for Outlaws the plays were all made by the Slumdogs. In the begining Slumdogs played with 5 men against the Outlaws but it didnt matter. QB Mike Chu was absolutely dominant in this blowout of a win. Final score was 39-7. Mike Chu’s stats look impressive enough but that’s with about 3 dropped TD’s extra. This guy will be a household name soon enough. And Outlaws? QB Sony Singh sure had a short leash..3 drives? Backup QB Jeremy Bordeaux took over and looked like a future star as he can make all the throws. Outlaws were seen practicing for the next 2 hours in a adjacent field and hopefully can put up better numbers from here on out.

Match up 2- Savages vs. Wolfpack

Our GOW promised us a very entertaining week. But Wolfpack missing their best player and starting QB for a while sure put a damper in this one. Backup QB Sandy looked sluggish and missed a lot of open receivers down the field. Their game plan wasn’t much better either. Why repeatedly go for broke with deep receivers when the backup QB’s strength is the short to intermediate routes? Luckily their defense was in terrific shape to make this game close. QB Zulfikar along with some spectacular plays by WR Joel Enai led the team to a 18-12 win. The game shouldn’t have needed a late score or such drama with a team missing their starting QB but Savages seem to play up to and down to their competition which doesn’t bode well for their next match up with the Spartans.

Match up 3- Empire vs. Stop N’ Go

Stop N’ Go raced to a quick early lead of 13-0. QB Talha G. looked like an All-Pro. But Empire’s defense tightened up considerably after. Their safeties led by Dipan did a terrific job. At the half it was 13-7 and we were set for an epic finish. Empire’s defense kept stopping Stop N’ Go’s offense and QB Dipan used his scrambling ability to perfection in the second half. Down 19-14 he led Empire down the field with seconds to go with the game-winning drive. WR Shazad Ali came up huge with key receptions in the second half and big time plays in defense. This young guy has potential to be one of the very best SAFL has to offer. Captains Farhan and Usman of Stop N’ Go didn’t seem too worried as they repeatedly said after the game it will take a little while to get used to playing organized football and they will be there at the end of the year. The clock is ticking guys.

Match up 4- The Believers vs. Bandits

The Bandits couldn’t have asked for a better start. After picking off Believers QB Hamza Hussaini on the first drive at their own red zone Captain/QB Burhan converted quickly to put Bandits up a score. WR’s Sakib and Harvey looked pretty unguardable for most of the afternoon. But Believers always believed (pun intended). It was a see-saw battle throughout the game and it was by far the most entertaining game of the week. It finally led to Razi Hussaini throwing the game winning TD with less than a minute left in the game. Bandits looked absolutely stunned to have lost such a winnable game. The question now is can the Bandits recover and can The Believers use this game as a springboard for a very successful season.

Matchup 5- Spartans vs. No Games No Gimmicks

This game didn’t look close on paper. And it looked even worse in the field. QB Salman absolutely had no chemistry with his receivers and no practice time in the offseason showed. They have couple of very good players in Khuram Shahzad and Mo Rahman but as of now this team is nowhere near in the level of Spartans. The defense had 4 intos and QB Anwar looked absolutely dominant. WR Jose Martinez had one of the best catches you will see this season. A defense led by Jose, Hashim and Adil promises to be very stingy which will lead to a lot of victories for this young, and fast squad.
