Week 1 Players Of The Week
Week 1 There were a lot of great performances. It was hard to leave some of the deserving players out but here are the deserving winners of this week’s Players of the Week.
Mike Chu-The first TD of SAFL history was thrown by Mike Chu of Slumdogs. It was not a 5 yard or 10 yard strike, it was a full field toss. Calm and collective he looked for the open man either for a quick pass or TD. Mike finished the day throwing for 5 TD’s, 2 Extra point completions and 1 extra point run in. Mike may not have been a college QB but the kid sure can sling it with the best of em.
Anwar Sadat- QB of Spartans had what probably will be his best day at the helm of the offense. 5 Tds thrown. Completion by the bunches to many different receivers. The offense looks like the juggernaut known as the Patriots in the NFL. Very efficient and clean performance by Anwar.
Sakib Hassan- Playing for the Bandits in a losing cause, this player put up some amazing stats. Wearing #2 Bandits jersey proudly the tight end had an exceptional day on offense with 7 receptions, 1 touchdown. Additionally on defense, Sakib had 4 tackles, along with a sack and 3 balls batted down. Sakib looks like a key to any future success Bandits will have.
Adil Palwala- The veteran of many leagues, Adil was seen all over the field for the Spartans. The starting safety and sometime slot receiver had a banner day. He finished the day with 2 touchdown receptions among his 6 receptions. On the defensive side he had an interception along with 2 batted balls to finish his strong opening day.
Dipan Patel- The starting QB and Safety of Empire stats on the offensive stats weren’t particularly impressive. He only completed 12 passes out of 23 attempts. But threw for 2TDs and rushed for one more. His scrambling ability was a huge factor in their win against Stop N Go. He was also a force on the defensive side with 2 tackles, 2 batted balls and 1 interception.
Shazad Ali- His overall performance doesn’t really strike you as a Player of the Week performance. But if you look at the tape of the game you will realize him and Dipan willed Empire to their upset victory over Stop N Go. He finished with 5 catches along with the game winning TD. Aun Merchant might’ve had the better day over all with 7 reception and 1 TD but Shazad gets the nod for his clutch performance.
Fawad Khan- The speedster from the up and coming team The Believers had a huge day in offense. 7 receptions 1 TD on offense helped the Believer offense in their surprising win along with his 2 tackles and 1 into. He did have 3 drops on offense. Musaib Hussaini was tough to leave off here as he had 5 receptions and 2 Tds on offense.
