Match up 1: Outlaws vs No Games No Gimmicks
The match up pitted two 0-1 teams that came off of blowout losses against each other. So obviously there wasn't much hype to the game. But what a breathtaking game this was. QB Jeremy was MIA but backup QB Jawed looked calm, cool and collected in leading his team to a wick 2 TD lead. NGNG's new additions looked out of sorts and Outlaws were feeling good about themselves. The turnaround and momentum shifted on a TD catch and run by WR Karan Chawla of Outlaws that was called back due to illegal blocking. NGNG then closed the half with a surge and it was 14-12 at the half. They traded scoring drives and it was 21-20 Outlaws with 2 min to go. Then with 23 seconds left NGNG QB Aldo threw a perfect TD strike to Mohammed for the game winner. And that's the difference between a .500 record of NGNG and bottom dwelling Outlaws. Sick game tho.
Match up 2: Bellerose Wolfpack vs Bandits
This match up went down to the wire as well and as intense a game as any this league has seen. In the end however with the game on the line QB Burhan threw a game killing interception. Wolfpack raced to a quick 19-6 lead but with Marc, Sakib, Victor, Harvey etc on the receiving end of Burhans passes actually took a 24-19 lead. Parvesh with some completions to Bubz, Vish, Niraj and Gurpreet ended up taking a 26-24 lead and Burhan had the ball in his hands to win the game for his team. But looking for his main man Marc Flynn, he was picked off and Wolfpack converted the turnover into a score and dealt Bandits their second straight heartbreaking loss.
Match up 3: Empire vs Slumdogs
Two teams coming off of nice wins in week one looked to continue their momentum. Chris Mui of Empire struck first with a short pass to Dipan that Dipan took to the house for a long TD. But with Gotham Greens amazing TD catch and juke we had another close game at the half 14-12. Slumdogs then made a major change going from Mike to Jesse Narula as their QB and the two teams traded blows with Atif scoring for Empire and Munesh catching a TD pass from Jesse for Slumdogs. The momentum shifted when Dipan scored another long TD from Chris to blow the game open and then added a 3rd TD moments later. Empire ended up winning 35-25 and Dipan padded his early MVP resume.
Match up 4: Stop N Go vs Believers
Believers coming off of a highly entertaining win against Bandits looked to continue their winning ways against a much maligned Stop N Go team coming off of their disappointing loss opening day. QB Talha looked sharp from the start and before you knew it was 13-0. Believers tried their best to hang with Stop N Go but Hamza kept throwing picks to Usman Ghumman it seemed like every other drive. Talha, Usman, Farhan and Shumail had huge days and Believers have to take care of Hamza's shattered psyche. Final score was 44-21 and that's with Stop N Go letting up.
Matchup 5: Savages vs Spartans
Our GOW did not disappoint at all. The game actually featured the first ever OT game. It started off with everything going right for Spartans and they turned two Zulf picks into scores and led 18-6 with 6 seconds to go in the half. Then inexplicably Irfan ran a post route and beat Spartan safeties Hashim and David untouched for a 50 yard TD with time expiring. No excuse for that. Why is there only two safeties dropping back on the last play? The second half was a defensive battle but with the game 24-18 Zulfikar beat DE Selvin and ran for a 20 yard TD to tie the game with 1 min left. The extra point however was ruled out of bounds by the refs on a judgement call and we went to OT. Spartans scored on their possession with a calm Anwar hitting Hashim and Sajeel often and capping it with Yamin catching a nice TD. David then converted the extra point for a 7 point lead. Zulf then took Savages right down the field culminating with WR Parik catching his 3rd! TD of the game. Then Captain Irfan made the decision to go for the win and not the tie with a 2 point conversion try. But Spartans played great D and Savages was unable to covert which finished a exciting game 31-30 and capped off a brilliant day of SAFL. Yamin, Hashim, Sajeel had big receiving days for Spartans and Parik and PJ led the Savages in receptions.
